Closer my God, to Thee....

Wrapt is my soul in sweet amaze: Jesus, My God, is MINE!

BAPTISM: June 5

By the grace of God
two children from the households of mission patients were baptized today.

And to a sick little patient who was given emergency baptism at the city hospital,
the ceremony of Baptism was supplied.

"..to as many as received Him He gave the power of becoming the sons of God; to those that believe in His Name: who were born not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God..." (St. John 1:12-13)

In the service of the sick

"You have certainly seen many times the strength of a Christian faith and of a hope that surpasses visions tied down to this world. The sick understand how human aid gradually slips away from them, that even if they are surrounded, comforted, consoled, no one can reach into their intimate depths. They must suffer their destiny alone. True help can come only from God, from Christ crucified, Who sustains by His grace, and elevates spirit and heart.

"It is very difficult for those unprepared for it, to open their hearts to liberating truth, to renounce every vain revolt of the will, to enter into the redemptive concept in which suffering is regarded as an expiation of guilt, and as a participation in the passion of Christ and in His saving power. Thus Jesus waits for devoted, faithful and vigilant souls to transmit His message, interpret it and make it understood and accepted. In such a way, beloved sons and daughters, a magnificent apostolate is open to your zeal, and We are sure that you have already experienced how in that apostolate your profession follows its highest goal and gains the strength to continue its arduous labor. You will find at the same time the most lasting joys and most intimate consolations of conscience in erecting a work that neither time nor death will destroy.

The ultimate aim of all relief work

"For the complete success of your work, therefore, it is essential that you ever keep in mind the ultimate aim of all relief work, which is not only to alleviate physical suffering, but by means of this material relief to facilitate the spiritual life of man, to make it possible for families, parents and children alike, to rise from conditions that jeopardize the virtues of a healthy home and civil society and tempt to utter despair, and thus to lift up their hearts to their Heavenly Creator, the Author and End of all life. This is the aid most necessary in the restoration of peace."
